Engine and Generator Inspection Survey

An Engine and Generator Inspection Survey provides an in-depth evaluation of a vessel’s propulsion engines and auxiliary power systems to determine their condition, performance, and serviceability. The survey includes a thorough visual inspection of each unit, focusing on overall installation quality, mounting integrity, alignment, fluid levels, cooling systems, fuel delivery components, exhaust systems, belts, hoses, wiring, and any signs of leaks, corrosion, or improper modifications. Where possible, the surveyor performs an operational test, observing startup behavior, shifting, throttle response, running temperature, oil pressure, vibration, smoke, and charging output to assess real-world performance.

The inspection also includes filters, service points, maintenance history review when available, and verification of manufacturer compliance and ABYC standards. For generators, the survey covers load testing when conditions allow, ensuring the unit can sustain electrical demand without abnormal noise, fluctuation, or overheating. Key observations and any deficiencies are documented with photographs and recommendations for repair, further diagnostics, or replacement. The final report provides buyers, owners, and insurers with a clear understanding of the machinery’s health, expected lifespan, and readiness for cruising or continued service.
