FAQ’s
1. What is included in a pre-purchase marine survey?
A pre-purchase survey is the most comprehensive inspection available. It includes a full evaluation of the vessel’s structural integrity, hull, deck, mechanical systems, electrical systems, fuel and plumbing systems, safety equipment, navigation electronics, cosmetic condition, and overall seaworthiness. When possible, the survey also includes a haul-out, running gear inspection, moisture readings, and operational testing.
2. How long does a marine survey take?
Most vessels can be fully inspected in 4–8 hours, depending on size, complexity, and systems onboard. Additional time may be needed for haul-outs, sea trials, or extensive mechanical inspections, and the final written report is typically delivered within 24–72 hours depending on the level of detail required.
3. Do I need a survey for insurance?
Yes. Most insurance companies require a Condition & Valuation (C&V) survey to verify seaworthiness, confirm safety compliance, and determine the vessel’s fair market value. We provide all documentation needed for underwriting, renewals, and policy adjustments.
4. How much does a marine survey cost?
Survey pricing varies based on the vessel’s length, systems, construction type, and the level of detail required. We provide straightforward, competitive pricing with no hidden fees — just tell us your vessel type and size, and we’ll give you an accurate quote tailored to your needs.
5. Will the survey include a sea trial?
Yes, we can conduct a sea trial as part of the pre-purchase survey when the vessel is operational and conditions allow. Sea trials provide valuable insight into engine performance, handling, temperature, shifting, vibration, and system operation under load.
6. Do you offer same-day or rush surveys?
When scheduling permits, we do offer rush or expedited services for buyers on tight timelines. Contact us directly for availability, especially during peak boating season or after storms.
7. Do you inspect engines and generators during a survey?
Yes. We offer detailed engine and generator inspection surveys that include visual inspections, operational testing, load checks when possible, and documentation of any deficiencies. These can be included with a pre-purchase survey or booked as standalone services.
8. Do you work with brokers or only private buyers?
We work with private buyers, sellers, brokers, lenders, and insurance companies. Our goal is to provide unbiased, professional documentation no matter who hires us.
9. Can I attend the survey?
Absolutely. Buyers are welcome — and encouraged — to attend. This gives you the opportunity to ask questions, see issues firsthand, and gain a deeper understanding of the vessel and its systems.
10. Do you provide valuation reports for financing?
Yes. Lenders often require a current valuation to determine loan eligibility and collateral value. Our detailed valuation reports are accepted by banks, credit unions, and marine lenders.
11. How should I prepare my boat for a survey?
Ensure the vessel is clean, accessible, and unlocked. Remove personal items blocking access to hatches, engine spaces, lockers, and batteries. Make arrangements for a haul-out and sea trial if needed — we’re happy to coordinate these with local marinas or boatyards.
12. Do you offer consulting if I’m not ready for a full survey?
Yes. We provide consulting services for buyers and owners who need expert guidance before committing to a survey. This can include reviewing repair quotes, interpreting another surveyor’s report, evaluating potential boats, or troubleshooting issues.
13. Do you offer yacht management services?
Yes. We offer full yacht management for seasonal and absentee owners, including routine inspections, maintenance oversight, system checks, scheduling repairs, and ensuring your yacht stays in top condition year-round.
14. Can you help with storm damage or accident claims?
Absolutely. We perform detailed damage appraisal surveys to document structural, mechanical, and cosmetic damage for insurance claims, repair planning, or dispute resolution. These reports include photos, repair estimates, and cause-of-loss assessments.
15. What areas do you service?
We proudly serve St. Augustine, Jacksonville, Ponte Vedra, Palm Coast, Daytona Beach, Flagler Beach, Green Cove Springs, and all surrounding areas. Travel outside this region is available by request.
16. What qualifications does your surveyor have?
Our surveyor brings 50+ years of hands-on marine mechanic experience, extensive certification history, and decades spent servicing, repairing, and maintaining vessels from tenders to sportfishing yachts. After retiring from repair, he shifted to surveying to help buyers make informed, safe investments.
17. Do you survey all types of vessels?
Yes. We survey center consoles, sailboats, trawlers, catamarans, motor yachts, sportfishing boats, cruisers, tenders, and more. If it floats — we can inspect it.
18. How soon will I receive my report?
Most reports are completed within 24–72 hours depending on the vessel’s complexity and the type of survey performed. Rush reporting may be available upon request.
19. Do you offer restoration guidance or recommendations?
Yes. As restoration specialists, we can evaluate woodwork, gelcoat, interior finishes, and structural components to determine the most effective repair or restoration plan. We also recommend trusted craftsmen and marine technicians.
20. Can you help me understand another surveyor’s report?
Absolutely. We offer professional consultation to review, interpret, or verify another surveyor’s findings. This is especially helpful when buyers feel unsure about a report or want a second professional opinion.
