Damage Appraisal Surveys
A Damage Appraisal Survey provides a thorough and unbiased evaluation of a vessel following an accident, grounding, storm event, fire, mechanical failure, or any incident that results in physical or operational damage. The surveyor carefully documents the affected areas, identifies the cause and extent of the damage, and determines whether related systems or structural components have been compromised. This process includes detailed visual inspection, photographic evidence, system testing where possible, and comparison against manufacturer standards and ABYC safety guidelines.
The survey also includes an assessment of repair requirements, estimated labor and material costs, and an evaluation of whether the damage impacts the vessel’s overall value or seaworthiness. When necessary, the surveyor may coordinate with boatyards, technicians, insurers, and owners to verify repair feasibility and ensure accurate estimations. The final report provides clear documentation for insurance claims, dispute resolution, or repair planning, giving owners and insurers the confidence needed to move forward with repairs or settlement decisions.
